Thai Tom Yum Recipe

Perhaps one of the most famous Thai recipes, sure to have been sampled by any visitor to Thailand. Tom yum is a hot and sour soup with hints of sour flavour from the lime leaves and lemon grass. Usually tom yum is made with prawns, but you can also use mixed seafood, fish, or even chicken.

The galang gives this soup its distinctive smell and taste. This popular thai recipe is another easy to prepare and healthy meal. If you are new to Thai food, then tom yum is an essential.

Thai Tom Yum Recipe

Thai Tom Yum Ingredients

Serves 2

4 chillies

150g king prawns

1 galang

1/8 cup of lime leaves

1 lemon grass

2 tablespoons of chilli paste

4 tablespoons of lemon juice

2 tablespoons of fish sauce

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

1 thai parsley

1 tomato

3 mushrooms

3 cups of water

Thai Tom Yum Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Remove the storks from the chillies, and make a vertical incision along each chilli

Step 2: Slice the mushrooms and tomatoes

Step 3: Chop the lime leaves into fine pieces. Then slice the galanga

Step 4: Slice the lemon grass into small pieces

Step 5: Heat 3 cups of water in a pan. Add the chilli paste and mix together until the water takes on a brownish colour

Step 6: Add the chillies, lime leaves, lemon grass, galanga, and mix everything together. Cook for 1 minute stirring constantly

Step 7: Add the tomatoes and mushrooms and stir for 2 minutes, then add the prawns (if pre cooked, if raw add the prawns first, before the vegetables)

Step 8: Now add the fish sauce, sugar, and lemon juice. Let everything cook together for about 5 minutes, stirring regularly, then serve in a bowl and enjoy
